Past Productions

Even though April Productions is a young and emerging company, it has already a proven national and international record of excellence. The company has been successful in introducing new audiences to Canadian theatre and in increasing the visibility of Canadian artists in the international theatre community. April Production has been supported by the Toronto Arts Council, The Canada Council for the Arts, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Canadian Embassies in Belgrade (Yugoslavia) and Washington, DC (US).

In its first major production, The Vindication of Senyora Clito Mestres, a modern classic based on a Greek tragedy, April Productions showcased the talents of outstanding artists Chris Abraham, Jan Komarek and Dragana Varagic. The show received exceptional critical acclaim including a Dora Award Nomination in the Best Actress category and invitations for two international tours: one to Belgrade's National Theatre and one to Washington DC's Classika Theatre. The company came back home with excellent reviews from major newspapers in both Belgrade and Washington DC and open invitations for future collaborations.

NOT MY STORY (click for more details)
Its second production, Not My Story, set in the multicultural milieu of present day Toronto, tells the story of a group of artists who find themselves between cultures and languages, desires and reality, past and present. A comedy of errors ensues when they enter a game of make-believe running away from their true story, only to find themselves face to face with it. Alluding to Chekov's Three Sisters and Beckett's Waiting for Godot, the play explores complex, yet very personal themes of identity, friendship and love."

"Do exiles always come from remote troubled places of the world, or can the sense of displacement be felt profoudly in one's "very own backyard"?
